A grab bar is only as strong as the wall behind it. Screwed into plain drywall, a bar can pull loose the moment someone leans their full weight on it, which is exactly when they need it most. That's why the real safety work happens before the tile ever goes up.
During the build, we open the wall and add solid wood blocking at every spot you might need support later. This is cheap to do during a remodel and expensive to add afterward, since it means tearing out finished tile.
Plan it now and your walls stay ready for whatever comes, even if you don't add every bar today. If you're already doing a full bathroom remodel, building this support in from the start is the smart move.
Open floor space is what makes a bathroom usable with a walker or chair. Many older Bothell homes have small, boxed-in bathrooms built for a single standing adult, with a swing door and a tub crammed against one wall. That layout leaves almost no room to turn.
